Introduction to Mechatronics Engineering

One of the new engineering courses that is getting attention in recent years is "Mechatronics Engineering". It is an unique combination of Mechanical + Electrical and Electronics + Computer Science + Control system Engineering which includes process control and automation .

In 1980's the word "Mechatronics" originated from Japan that denotes the combination of Mechanical and Electronics.  The general  definition of Mechatronics is "the synergistic integration of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Computer technology, and IT to produce or enhance products and systems."

Some examples for mechatronics system includes Computers, Disk drives, Photocopiers, Fax machines, VCR, Washing machines, CNC machine tools, Robots, etc. Today’s modern car is also a mechatronics product with the usage of electronic engine management system, collision detection, global positioning system, and others.
