You are locked into dark room. Door can be unlocked exactly after 45 minutes. There is no scale or clock inside the room. If you missed to unlock after 45 minutes, it will never open.
You are provided with two candles of equal size, which can burn 1 hour each. Also you are given a lighter.
Task is to measure the time(45 min) by burning these candles and to get escape from the room by unlocking it.

Ill burn both the candles at the same time but with their flames on opposite direction. Both the flames will meet at exactly 30 minutes since they are 1hr burning candle. Then I'll rearrange and repeat the same then it will again meet after 15 minutes. Hence 45 minutes are measured by burning candles. Then I'll escape by unlocking the door.

DeleteLight the 1st candle both in top nd bottom and 2nd candle in top alone.when The 1st candle burnts completely it will be of 30 mins meanwhile the 2nd candle will be half burnt,the light the 2nd candle in the bottom also,so it take 15 mins to complete.30+15=45

ReplyDeleteTake a candle..cut into four equal pieces...start burning up one by one...at the end of third candle it should be 15+15+15=45 unlock the door..march out with a bonus candle
